About Retire57

Retire57 exists to make retiring early in the UK understandable. Pensions, SIPPs, ISAs and tax are full of jargon and moving rules, and most of what is written about them is either an advert or too vague to act on. We write the opposite: clear, specific explanations of the things that actually decide whether — and how — you can stop working before the state pension age.

The name is the mission. State pension age is rising, but with the right mix of pensions and ISAs many people can bridge the gap and retire around 57. Every guide here is aimed at that question: what do you need, and how do you get there.

Who writes Retire57

Graeme Watson founded Retire57 to share what he has learned researching early retirement in the UK — pensions, SIPPs, ISAs and tax — while planning his own route to retiring at 57. He writes in plain English, cites the primary sources (gov.uk, HMRC, MoneyHelper) and reviews the figures regularly. Retire57 is personal information and general observations, not regulated financial advice. Read more about Graeme Watson.

How we research

We cite primary sources — gov.uk, HMRC, MoneyHelper and the PLSA — rather than paraphrasing other blogs, and we review the figures on a regular schedule so the numbers stay current. You can read exactly how in our editorial policy.

Important — not financial advice

Retire57 is personal information and general observations, written in plain English. It is not regulated financial advice and does not account for your individual circumstances. Always do your own research and, for decisions that matter, speak to a suitably qualified, FCA-authorised adviser.
